An Ages-Old Effort

Two thousand years ago, a call went out for volunteers. Jesus Christ had won victory over sin and death, but much work remained and remains to be done. The resurrected Christ will not rest until He has led His people through the same veil of death – until as many as will answer the call rest together on the other side of judgment. His campaign continues to this day, and every one of us must play a part in the war. Will we answer His call? Will we rally under the standard of the King?

The Scripture Standard was begun in 1935 under the editorship of W. Crosthwaite to rally churches of Christ in the United Kingdom and beyond around that original call. These churches had dedicated themselves to a restoration – an attempt to set aside their own ideas of how a church should be organized and follow the leadership of Christ alone. Therefore:

"In two senses, the Scriptures are a standard: as a fixed rule or model, and as an ensign of war. We shall endeavor to keep these two meanings in view, seeking to test all things by the 'Scriptures of Truth;' and making them the God-given banner to be displayed as the rallying ground for those who desire to 'fight the good fight of the faith.'" – W. Crosthwaite, 1935

As the inheritors of this purpose, we shall endeavor to keep the same purposes in mind. We must first learn from the Scriptures, the fountainhead of all truth, but we must also seek unity, help, and support as we work together under Christ's great purpose. We hope and we pray that our efforts are beneficial for everyone that we encounter on this earth.
